騎士球團在22日發布消息，先發得分後衛「神經刀」J.R. Smith（史密斯）將動手術治療右手拇指斷裂傷勢，預計會缺陣4至6周。
根據《ESPN》的報導，Smith是在前役與公鹿一戰，防守「希臘怪物」Giannis Antetokounmpo時而不慎受傷，Smith在隨隊返回克里夫蘭後進行X光檢查確認傷勢。一般預計此傷勢需要4至6周的康復時間，不過騎士球團則表示會等Smith手術過後再確定他明確的歸隊時間。
這是騎士近來折損的第3名球員，中鋒Chris Andersen日前才因膝傷宣告整季報銷，Kevin Love也因膝傷缺陣。對此騎士總教練Tyronn Lue表示球團尚未考慮要透過交易來補強球隊陣容。
「目前來說我們還沒有考慮過這個想法，畢竟我們現在還是支20勝6敗的球隊。」Lue在22日賽前表示：「我昨天才跟總管David Griffin討論過，我告訴他不用著急。」
「我們會很想念Smith的防守能量、還有他高難度出手命中的射籃，但這並不表示我們會有藉口輸球。」Lue希望有其他球員能頂替Smith：「該是其他球員挺身而出的時候了，我想我的球員已經準備好接受這個挑戰。」
